Newcastle Could Spend apos;LESS apos; This Summer Than What They Did In January

Newcastle's budget for the summer transfer window is set to be less than expected as they have reportedly ruled out making expensive superstar signings. 
The Magpies have been linked to some of the world's finest players since their Saudi-led takeover back in October - making them the richest club in football. 
's side spent a massive £90million during the window, with many expecting they would smash that figure during the summer.

However, the have reported that the Magpies actually plan to spend less than the amount they spent in January - in the region of £60m.

Preliminary recruitment meetings have been held involving chief scout Steve Nickson, Howe and acting chief executive Amanda Staveley.
On the back of those discussions, a lavish summer spending spree has been ruled out.
It's said they will favour 'pragmatic ambition' in the transfer market which will allow them 'room for manoeuvre' under the Financial Fair Play rules.

The club will aim to sign players who fit into the club's current wage structure, with Howe aiming to make three or four signings this summer.
Newcastle's current top earners take home around £100,000-per-week, and the Magpies have no desire to massively increase that figure at this moment in time. 
The report states that senior figures at St James' Park were particularly amused at speculation that they could make a £200m move for Neymar.  
They could however rekindle their interest in Lille defender Sven Botman who was a target during the January transfer window. 
Sportsmail previously reported that the Magpies could also look to sign a goalkeeper to offer greater competition to Martin Dubravka.

Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Manchester United shot-stopper Dean Henderson are both reported targets.
They are also interested in Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips who is the subject of interest from a number of Premier League sides.
Extra funds could be raised through player sales, with players like Isaac Hayden, Jamal Lewis and Ciaran Clark not included in their 25 man squad since January.
Newcastle will be looking to cut unwanted players from the wage bill and keep plenty of space available under FFP, which will mean they will also be able to recruit next January if targets are available.

It's said that their plan is to become one of the best teams in Europe, but only through gradual growth, rather than rapid spending on inflated transfer fees and wages.  
 Before the January transfer window, Newcastle had been in a poor run of form and were sitting inside the relegation zone.
During the window they signed Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn. Matt Targett also arrived on loan from Aston Villa.
